TCPLINK or SPECSTORE in Operation
Insert the operation diskette in the TCPLINK unit and
re-boot. This procedure takes about one minute. The boot procedure is
finished as soon as the floppy drive is no longer active.
The unit is now ready for operation, and you may remove the
operation diskette from the floppy drive. You must do that,
actually, if you want to archive files on a diskette. In this case
you just insert your own (DOS-formatted) diskette in the drive
(TCP also provides a format command if you have only
unformatted diskettes available, see later).
Should it be necessary to re-boot the unit due to some failure, you must, of course, re-insert the operation diskette.
You can execute a quick check whether the unit booted up correctly.
Type in the command TCP N on the ASPECT keyboard, and you should
get the serial number of your unit, its software
version, and its internal date and time printed.
In order to test whether TCP/IP connections are working,
type in the command TCP <destination>:P
(e.g. TCP SUN:P
on the ASPECT keyboard. If you have defined a destination file
<destination>.tcp as described,
e.g. sun.tcp,
you should get an answer from the host defined
in this file. This command in principle executes a TCP/IP
ping.
Ping will fail if the host is down, but also if there are
problems with your system. In this case
you should check whether all setups for
this host are correct. Check also if the Ethernet cable is
plugged into the TCPLINK unit correctly.
The unit is now ready for the commands described in the next chapters.
